Supporting Children in the Church

Sunday School has resumed for the school term. Welcome back and a special welcome to any children new to our congregation.

In continuing to provide a relevant and supportive service to our older children, our congregation now asks for someone to “step forward” and accept the leadership of our senior group of children. We also would greatly appreciate any assistance for the junior group too.

Church Receptionist

Church Council is looking for a person to join a small team to answer telephone calls made on the church number and redirected to the duty receptionist’s home phone. The role of the receptionist will be to advise the enquirer as to who can assist them. Someone who is at home most of the day would be ideal.

Please talk to any of the church council if you can help.

Christmas Giving

The Church Council has proposed that we direct our Christmas charitable giving towards the UCA Mission at Bridgewater-Gagebrook by providing funds for Christmas food for the 400 people they support in the area.

What they need from us is donations for the purchase of medium size “Lions” cakes to put in the Christmas hampers they distribute. The cakes cost around $8 and will need to be ordered by the end of this month. Please let one of the Church Councillors know if you wish to participate.

The Sunday School children will be helping with this project.

Something for the Kids

There are some new books by Andrew McDonough available in the library.

From their website:

“Way back in 1989 as a young Bible college student, Andrew was asked to give the dreaded “children’s talk” at a large church. Andrew possessed one talent: he could draw sheep. He bought some overhead projector film and drew up the story of Cecil. The congregation loved it, so Andrew continued to draw stories to use with kids and adults. Other students, pastors and teachers started borrowing the stories. . . .”

Joint Nominating Committee

Our JNC’s (Joint Nominating Committee) application (for a replacement minister as Mike Edwards retires at the end of 2008 ) has been forwarded to PRC (Pastoral Relation’s Committee).

We now await PRC supplying us with possibilities.
